Professional Experience:
Mario Hidalgo Matlock is a Tax and Legal Partner at Grant Thornton Costa Rica. He specializes in tax law. He is a tax advisor focused on corporate and financial restructuring. He has over 25 years of experience in litigation, tax law, and administrative law. Prior to entering private practice, he served as a lawyer for the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice on tax and customs matters. He also served as a lawyer for the First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice. He has extensive experience advising international clients in Costa Rica. He is an advisor and consultant to companies with diverse business areas in tax, customs, the electricity industry, the software industry, and medical matters, among others. He has participated in several acquisition proceedings and business model structuring projects, both locally and regionally.
Teaching Experience:
He has distinguished himself as a professor at several universities, teaching Public Law, Constitutional Law, and Tax and Financial Law. He has contributed opinion pieces and interviews to various national media outlets, including La Nación, Firma, and El Financiero.
Academic and professional studies:
- Law degree from the Autonomous University of Central America (1989). Master's degree in Tax Consulting from the UCI (2006). He is a member of the Costa Rican Bar Association (1990).
